  • Happy new year! R&R in 2011

    January 1, 2011

Wow, another year gone by. 2010 just went so fast! I've had a great year though, and I've read lots of books, enjoying reading even more than I did in previous years. 2011 can only get better. Resolution time…

    More reviews in 2011
I really want to post more reviews next year. Some of the books read in the past year, and generally just keep up with 2011's books. I want to try to review them as soon as possible. It just tends to be tricky sometimes, and that's due to the photo aspect of it: I can't always come up with an idea immediately, but there are also times when I have ideas a-plenty and am just too lazy :P Now THAT needs changin' :P

    More classics!
I'm made of fail – when it comes to resolving to read more classics and then not doing it, reaching for contemporary fiction instead. Tut tut. I must at least read the Jane Austen's I haven't read yet, a bit more Woolf and also try the Americans (Steinbeck, more Fitzgerald). Oh, and I must reread Jane Eyre. Absolutely.

    The Unfinished Ones
I hate abandoning books. It happens, but I do tend to finish an abandoned book if I try again later. Must make an effort in 2011 to give these books another chance.

    Lowlands lit
Later in 2010, I figured – why not read more books by Dutch authors? Truth is, we don't have very many that truly interest me. A lot of today's popular works are "literary thrillers", and I've yet to find books with a premise that really grabs me immediately (like Emma Donoghue's Room, or A Fraction of the Whole).
Nonetheless, I'm going to explore Lowlands Lit in 2011. I might be surprised.

    Read even more
Before Reading & Reviewing, I read about 20-25 books annually.
The first two years of Reading & Reviewing, I doubled that number, averaging 47 books.
    Year three, I read 64.
Go me! I read more and more. In 2011, I want to take it up another notch, by trying to read (and maybe review) 75 books. I know I can read at least 8 books every month if I only make the time for it!

    Read-a-thon
I'd like to do a mini-project in between the general big one; a read-a-thon was planned for 2010 but again, made of fail. 2011 it is!

New books? Read 'em and review 'em ASAP
To keep up with the times, it would be good to keep a closer eye on new publications and get copies of new books I'm interested in sooner. Keeps the blog "current" and I will also know what everyone's talking about when a book is revered or shot down.

Books I can't wait to read in 2011:

    1. Charlaine Harris – Dead Reckoning (Sookie #11)
    2. Paul Auster – Sunset Park
    3. Sara Gruen – Ape House
    4. Naima El Bezaz – Vinexvrouwen (Dutch)
    5. U2 by U2
    6. Pretty much everything else by David Sedaris that I haven't read yet.
    7. Edgar Allen Poe / H.P. Lovecraft
    8. Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles
    9. Moar classics

    …etcetera etcetera.
Yeah, that list will be far too long, come to think of it. Hmm.

I'm just looking forward to a year of more reading, lots and lots of it.
    Happy new year everyone!

I've found some good book tips here, now I only need to take more time for reading.
